What great things God has done!

What a wonderful work He began in 2015! This was the year of small beginnings, a year of the seeds pushing up into the sunlight, reaching out to heaven opening their small leaves to the light.

Now what is the Lord's plan for us in 2016? One obvious coming prayer theme is the 2016 elections. Let us implore the Lord for a righteous person to lead our country. But what does the Lord want from us this year? What other great and wonderful works will He do? What is He saying? At last, the Lord gave a familiar verse to lead us into 2016.

2 Chr. 7:14, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

This verse at first seemed like leftovers from last week's dinner. However, as Jesus said in Mat. 13:52, "Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the Kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old."

So let us be careful that our familiarity with this verse does not cause us to miss the newness of the message God wants to give us. Familiar verses are not old if they are fresh from heaven!

This year let us consider the verses before and after 2 Chr. 7:14 that bring a newness to the message of this familiar verse.

2 Chr. 7:13 says, "When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people..."

In our God-given land we are hearing of new diseases coming to us in succession. We have droughts and seeming wave after wave of tragedies. With our borders open there are millions invading our land devouring our resources like a plague of locust. We have a friend who works for HLS on the border, and he told us few Americans understand what is happening daily at our borders. He said the border patrol is notified days in advance of groups coming so they can prepare everything to receive them. In other words, it is a planned invasion! We certainly need to help the poor and needy, but we will have nothing left if we continue spending with such a heavy debt of $19 trillion.

What we need to realize is that God has left us unprotected because we have not humbled ourselves, called on Him, or sought His face as a nation for too long.

Rom. 11:22, "Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity, but toward thee goodness, if thou continue in His goodness."

We are told to behold both the goodness and severity of God — goodness if we follow and obey Him, severity if we don't. God cannot help but to deal severely with us right now, but He has also shown through Scripture and made real through our history His goodness. He does turn, when we turn. As 2 Chr. 7:14 says, "IF My people..." The IF is our responsibility. If His people turn and repent He will again show His goodness.

2 Chr. 7:15 says, "Now mine eyes shall be open and mine ears attentive unto the prayer that is made in this place."
Once we do our part as instructed in 2 Chr. 7:14 then God's eyes will look upon us again, and His ears will be open to our prayer.

So this year let us pray, let us seek His face, spending more time with greater depths than last year, but also let us humble ourselves and turn from any wickedness as we do.

In the next couple of months I hope to share further what seems to be the mind of the Lord for us as confirmed by others we pray with relating to these four points from 2 Chr. 7:14.

May we respond to Him so we can look back on 2016 and say again, "What great things God has done!

Defining Prayer

It can be assumed that since you have visited this website, you know something of the importance of prayer in the life of the believer. And perhaps you have come to the conclusion, as we have, that what  America truly needs is a revival and not merely a change in government. It is axiomatic to assert that revival comes in answer to believing, persistent prayer. Since  prayer is essential to any truly successful endeavor, a proper place to begin, we believe,  is to define prayer.

True Prayer is Costly

Sometimes it is easier to understand a thing by dealing in contrasts.  So perhaps it is fitting at the outset to state what prayer is not. "Prayer", as EM Bounds so aptly describes, "is not a little habit pinned  on to us while we were tied to our mother’s apron strings; neither is it a little decent quarter of a minute’s grace said over an hour’s  dinner, but it is a most serious work of our most serious years.” 1

The problems that plague America are serious indeed and her only hope  is that those Christians who love her be willing to lay down their lives to pray for her.  But alas, as Bounds has also said, “Spiritual  work is taxing work, and men are loath to do it. Praying, true praying, costs an outlay of serious attention and of time, which flesh and blood do not relish. Few persons are made of such strong fiber that they will make a costly outlay when surface work will pass as  well in the market. “2  By this he means that true praying is costly and many do not pay the price themselves  and consequently cannot discern what is merely superficial and perfunctory. Nothing of true eternal value is gained without cost of some sort.

Personal revival first

We are seeking to bring together a cohort of believers, into prayer groups, who understand the nature of prayer and are willing to pay the price on their knees to see America turn to God.  But before we direct our prayers to others, we must deal with ourselves.  We are in need of a revival ourselves.

Tim Keller writes: “Prayer is the only entryway into genuine self-knowledge. It is also the main way we experience deep change— the reordering of our loves. Prayer is how God gives us so many of the unimaginable things he has for us. Indeed, prayer makes it safe for God to give us many of the things we most desire. It is the  way we know God, the way we finally treat God as God. Prayer is simply the key to everything we need to do and be in life. We must learn to pray. We have to.”3

We agree.  We must learn to pray.  We have to.

Why Pray?

Some have said that America is lost, that there is no more hope. That there is no reason to pray. Is that true?

The United States of America was founded on Judeo Christian principles and has been considered a Christian nation for centuries.  Recently the President of the United States said we are no longer a Christian nation. Many were appalled when he said that. But the fact is we are now a back slidden nation.  God has blessed our nation throughout its history and His favor has always been upon us until recently. We turned our back on Him and now He has turned His face from us.

Will He reject us forever?

Someone who has walked with another of the same faith and then experienced the heartache of seeing them leave the faith know that there is sorrow of heart, and they never cease to seek their friend or family member out to try and bring them back to the path. They do not stop praying for them.  Gods heart is no different. He longs for us to turn back to Him. He wept over Jerusalem because of the hardness of their hearts, and He still weeps over the back slidden ones. He loves the back slider.

We are the ones that will determine whether or not there is no more hope. If we continue to walk down this path that we are on, hardening our hearts despite the warnings God has been giving us, then yes, there will be no more hope for us. But if we the people will stop to ponder the path of our feet, turning ourselves around to walk in the paths we once walked in as a nation, then Gods mercy will once again be extended to us!

Is His arm shortened that it cannot save us?

It is not! But our sins have separated us from His favor and only until we repent as a people and turn from our unrighteousness and seek His face again will we find favor in His sight.  So if there IS hope of receiving mercy and forgiveness if we turn back to Him, shouldn't we pray?

There is power in prayer! The prayer of the righteous availeth much.

Our prayers can make a difference in whether or not we the people turn back to righteousness.

I believe that the call of God for His people is to intercede day and night until we see Gods divine intervention.  I believe our call is the same as it was for Esther and the Jews in Shushan. We are called to fast and pray for our people until we see deliverance come!

Please pray for a National Revival. That America would turn back to righteousness!

Please pray for the church in America, and the pastors, that we would be willing to stand up for righteousness.

Please pray for our government leaders who are standing up and paying a high price. That God would give them great grace and strength to continue to stand strong.

Since the news Monday regarding marriage, I have been deeply concerned and would like to share my concern with you. Not only am I deeply concerned for Virginia and America, but also for those of the faith who are once again wondering: "Where is The Lord? Why did He not hear our prayers and intervene for us? Why did He not intervene for Virginia?"

I will confess that as I was waking up this morning, those questions were surfacing in my own mind.  During my morning devotional time and after my daily Bible reading, I felt like those questions were answered. I want to share this with you because my concern is that the spiritual enemy we are fighting will use this defeat to try to weaken our faith.

What is happening to America is overwhelming. As people of faith we will not be able to survive the spiritual conflict we are experiencing if we do not understand why this is happening to America, what God is doing, and why it seems that our prayers are not being heard. For years America has sinned against her God and turned her back on Him. Because of that, He has left us to the will of our enemies and they are rejoicing over us.  They are mocking us as they destroy our foundations, and they are saying, "Where is your God?" We see in scripture that when Israel turned away from The Lord, there were consequences. He gave them over to the will of their enemies until they repented with all their hearts and turned back to Him. In scripture we see how many times the prophets and those who still served The Lord suffered along with the rest of the people because of the consequences of the nation turning away from God. We also see that many times they prayed for divine intervention and did not see their prayers answered right away.

This morning as I read from the book of Micah, I realized that we also are suffering the consequences of our nation turning away from God. We have been praying for divine intervention, and it seems our prayers are not being answered. Instead, our enemies are rejoicing over us, even this week with their victory.  I also realized that though our enemy is rejoicing over us right now, the day is coming when God will have mercy and will save us and will put to shame those who now rejoice over us.
I realized something else that I feel is so important for us today. We see that during the difficult times when Israel was being chastised for turning away from The Lord, the prophets identified with the sins of the people as they said, "We have sinned against You, O God." I think it is important that when we pray for America, we identify with her sins and repent, too. I believe if we do so, our prayers will be much more effective.

We see an example of this in the Book of Micah. In Micah 7: 8-10 the prophet Micah says, "Do not rejoice over me my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me. I will bear the indignation of The Lord, because I HAVE SINNED against Him, until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will seeHis righteousness. Then she who is my enemy will see and shame will cover her who said to me, ‘Where is The Lord your God?’”

So I want to encourage you to not let yesterday's defeat rob you of your faith, trust or hope in the Almighty. Instead, let this strengthen you to seek Him as never before. Let this defeat move you to intercede with more fervor for your own life, for your family and for America, identifying with her sins.

I want to remind you of how during World War II, Rees Howells and his group of intercessors spent hours every day, for months, on their knees praying that Hitler would be stopped and would not be able to bomb England. Their prayers were "not answered.” Seemingly, they had one defeat after the other. In the eyes of those around them they looked like fools, but they did not lose their faith. They pressed on even more. They began fasting more and began praying witheven greater fervor. And as history records, the day came when at last they saw the salvation of their God! Today they are credited as being the ones that were key to winning World War II!
Every prayer they prayed, every day they fasted, every hour of intercession on their knees for England--those were all stepping stones to obtaining the victory over the enemy!

I believe with all my heart that every prayer we pray, every hour we fast, every sacrifice we make by interceding for America will be the stepping stones that will lead to victory in the end.

Therefore, “Fight the good fight of faith!” (I Tim. 6:12)
