A Spiritual Resolution

It is tradition for many people to make New Year resolutions. Every year many of us make resolutions centered around our general health, finances, family, etc.
I don’t typically make resolutions, but this year I made a spiritual resolution that I would like to invite all who read this to make as well. At the beginning of the year, I spent time praying for what God has for America Pray Now in 2018, and I was reminded of the life of Daniel and the resolution that he made.
In all Babylon, which was the greatest nation of its time, there was none found like Daniel and his three friends. Throughout his life, Daniel was honored and exalted by the various kings of Babylon. Daniel was a young Jew who had been taken into captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar, yet not long after King Nebuchadnezzar is found falling down on his face prostrate before Daniel. The next two kings after also honored and exalted Daniel and decreed to the entire kingdom that everyone had to serve Daniel’s God because he was the living God.
How could a Jewish captive come to influence three of the greatest kings of his time? What made him so different than all the others living in Babylon? Why was he the one exalted and honored?

We can see three reasons given in the Scripture.
1) Daniel made a resolution to not defile himself with the food and wine of Babylon. He kept that resolution, and God honored him. He chose to avoid the delicacies of Babylon, a type of the world, in order to stay undefiled and please the Lord.
2) Daniel also prayed faithfully on his knees every day.
3) In addition to praying every day the Bible says that he gave thanks to his God. I believe that this is a very important detail about Daniel’s spiritual walk. In spite of the great trial of being in captivity he had a thankful heart! Scripture tells us, “In everything give thanks.” Giving thanks is pleasing to the Lord.
As Daniel faithfully sought his God day by day, he came to know God and obtained wisdom and understanding which were the keys to interpreting dreams, visions, and riddles. There is a distinct difference between knowing about God and knowing God
Psalms 103:7 says, “He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.”

Israel knew about God but did not have a personal relationship with God. Moses, on the other hand, spent time seeking the Lord and came to know God. He came to know the One who is wisdom and came to understand His ways.
Moses and Daniel were both men who knew their God and accomplished great exploits. Scripture tells us that those that know their God shall perform great exploits.
A modern day example of a man who knew his God and accomplished great exploits is Hudson Taylor who was a missionary to China many years ago. Millions of Chinese came to the Lord through his ministry, and even today the Chinese are still being affected by his footprint. But how did Hudson Taylor reach the place where he could have such an impact? He was a missionary that was unhappy with the worldliness of other missionaries. He chose to pay the price to seek the Lord — to seek wisdom and understanding. His routine was to wake up and seek the Lord  because that was the time when he was assured to have quiet time with the Lord. Even after entire days of travel and being exhausted he still faithfully sought God. He was a man that came to know his God and accomplished great things.
Just as Daniel was used by God to bring light to the darkness of Babylon, Hudson Taylor was used by God to bring light to the darkness of China. Today God is looking for those who He can use to bring light into the great darkness of our nation.
America has an urgent need for us as God’s people to separate ourselves from all that is unholy, from the delicacies of this world that defile us making us lukewarm Christians. We must do what the Lord told Jeremiah and separate the precious from the vile in order to be His mouth.
Satan has put his mark on so much that is around us, and he is continuously trying to use those things to defile God’s people to keep us from being a holy and separated people unto God. This is why I want to invite you to join me in making the Daniel resolution.
This spiritual resolution is to abstain from partaking of the delicacies of this world including the entertainment that defiles and seek the Lord faithfully every day. If we separate the precious from the vile, and seek the Lord and come to know Him we too will accomplish great exploits. We will be used by God to bring light into the darkness of our nation.
Revival is our urgent need! Just as God moved through Daniel to bring light into Babylon, He can move through you and me to bring revival to America!
