Do Not Love the World or the Things in the World

Do Not Love the World or the Things in the World

"Lord, forgive us, for the church has conformed to the world. God’s people view pornography, listen to the same music as the world, and act like the world. You are a holy God and You are seeking a holy people. We repent and ask that You would forgive us and send us a revival! O God, make us a holy people for Your glory!”

This prayer was prayed recently in an America Pray Now prayer meeting and was very impacting! The Lord’s desire is to have a church that is not conformed to this world. Only then will His life and power flow through us to our needy nation.

First John 2:15 says, “Do not love the world or the things in the world.”

God’s people are living in a world surrounded by wickedness and the pleasures of sin, daily being tempted to love the world and partake of its pleasures. It may seem more difficult to walk righteously among this perverse and wicked generation, but Noah, who lived during a time of great wickedness in the world, proved that it is possible!

The world was so wicked in his day that God was sorry He had made man on the earth and was grieved in His heart. Noah found grace in the eyes of God because he walked uprightly and did not conform to the world. Because of this, he and his household were saved when judgement fell upon the earth.

As in Noah’s day, we are living in a very wicked world, with wickedness increasing. God’s people are being daily confronted with the world and its pleasures. Immorality and pornography have filled the earth through the Internet, and tragically, they have even come into the church.

Recently a God-fearing woman began having marriage problems due to her husband being addicted to pornography. She knew her marriage was crumbling so she went to her pastor for counsel. His response was, “Well are you jealous because your husband is seeing women more beautiful than you?” She left that appointment stunned. She then sought for help by a different pastor and had the same question asked. She left confused because she knew the Bible says that if a man looks upon a woman to lust after her he is committing adultery in his heart. Tragically, that marriage ended in divorce.

Pornography has entered the church and is destroying godly homes. According to Christianity Today, 56% of American divorces are related to pornography.

The church needs a revival! Revival always starts with repentance. As God’s people, we can turn to the Lord in humility and with repentant hearts, praying for God to forgive us and to send us a mighty outpouring of His Spirit! A mighty outpouring that is so powerful that it transforms the church.

In Ezekiel 9, we see that judgement starts in the house of God; it starts with His people. The only ones who will be spared when judgement falls are those who are crying and sighing for the abominations in His house, those who are not participating in the sin around them but who have separated themselves from it.

Those who understand how horrible the sin is in His house and who are weeping between the porch and the altar, saying, “Spare us, O God, and give not Your heritage to reproach!”

To sigh is to mourn or groan, and to cry is to have a prayer that comes from the depth of the heart. As we see the abominations in God’s house, and as we see the needs all around us, may it move us to draw near to the Lord to sigh and cry!

Let’s join with other believers who are repenting for our sins and the sins of our fathers.

Let’s pray for repentance to flow in our hearts, our homes, and our churches that we would be a people set apart from the world — a light in the midst of great darkness.
