God is Calling His People

The last couple of months have been like a roller coaster ride for every God-fearing, freedom-loving American. We would like to share something with you that we hope will be an encouragement to all those who have been interceding for our nation.

Jeremiah was an intercessor who began his ministry under King Josiah of Judah. He appears on the scene about halfway through Josiah’s 31-year reign. The land of Judah was being blessed abundantly with a righteous king who was working diligently to turn the nation back to the Lord, back to righteousness. Judah is prospering, and the future looks brighter than ever and suddenly Jeremiah comes on the scene and starts telling them that God is calling them back from their backsliding! Imagine that scenario!

From the beginning of Jeremiah's ministry, he was prophesying to the people. One of his first prophecies (keep in mind that he was speaking to God's people who were in a time of prosperity) in Jeremiah 3:12 was: “

‘Return backsliding Israel,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not remain angry forever. Only acknowledge your iniquity.’

And in Jeremiah 4:14 he says, “O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved.” I am sure the people of Israel were wondering how this could be the word of the Lord when everything was prospering and going well? Because everything was going so well and Jeremiah's prophecies of doom and gloom seemed so preposterous, they closed their ears and their hearts and continued to follow the dictates of their own hearts.

Let us compare Israel at that time to the United States at this time.

Having a godly leader over America, or leading the state we live in is a GREAT blessing, and that is what we pray for but it is not sufficient. It is not sufficient because a godly leader is only temporary, and a godly leader cannot change the hearts of the people! After four years of having a President that has worked diligently to restore righteous laws and assure God's people religious liberty, our nation is more divided than ever and many say on the brink of civil war. That is why we NEED REVIVAL! It is our nation's only hope!

During Josiah’s reign, the Lord was calling His people to wash their hearts from wickedness that they might be saved. He was calling on them day after day during King Josiah's reign because He loved His people and longed to bless them and give them peace and safety from their enemies. Yet they closed their ears to His voice and refused to humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways.

During all those years Jeremiah, who is often referred to as the weeping prophet, faithfully interceded, and it probably seemed that his prayers were in vain as he witnessed the fall of the nation that he loved. Imagine how he felt as he watched young Daniel, only about sixteen years old, being taken away as a slave in chains after all his weeping and intercession. But Jeremiah's intercession for his nation was NOT in vain. God turned the tragedy into good for Judah and Israel. He used Daniel in a mighty way during the time of captivity, and when the Lord turned their captivity and restored His people His Name was glorified.

The call for GOD’S PEOPLE to wash their hearts from wickedness is still echoing from the Throne of God!

He wants to save us. He wants to save America! Second Chronicles calls His people to turn from their wicked ways so He can heal their land! How can we as His people take that first step towards turning from our wicked ways? James gives us the clear steps towards that becoming a reality.

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” We must draw near to God! If you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. That is a promise! It is in His presence that we will then see our need and see what we need to turn away from that is wicked in His sight.

James continues: “Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy.” ~James 4:7-12

James wrote this portion of scripture not to a heathen people but to God's people! This is a powerful word to God's people. Here James is admonishing God's people to not speak against other brethren, to not be gossipers. Why is this so important? \We cannot expect our prayers to be effective if we are praying one minute and then speaking against our brethren to others the next. Oh God, cleanse our lips with coals from off the altar so that our prayers are effective! (Isaiah 6:5-7)

What will turn America around so she can be saved? REVIVAL!

What will usher in a revival? A PRAYING church that has humbled herself to the dust of the earth and cried out to God with all her heart in true repentance, coming before His Throne asking for Him to show us what displeases Him and willingly surrendering all on the altar with only blessing flowing from our mouths! THEN the prayers of God's people will be heard and answered. THEN we will see the powers of darkness being pushed back! THEN we will see Light, Life, Love springing up all over the land

O God, we draw near to You with humble hearts! Please show us our need and open our eyes of understanding that we may know what is wicked in Your sight and what we need to repent for and turn away from. O Spirit of God, fall on us, Your people, and conquer our hearts. Move upon the face of our earth within us and bring new Life that when we bow before You on behalf of our nation our prayers push back the powers of darkness. Please have mercy on us and have mercy on America.
