Setting Captives Free

Three American men, held in captivity without hope, with no way out of the terrible North Korean prison were suddenly set free a few weeks ago!

Imagine if you were in those oppressive prisons, doomed to years of hard labor, and suddenly you were told, “You are free — free to go home, to hug your loved ones. Free at last!” You would walk out of that prison feeling like you were dreaming. That is what these three men experienced. Imagine how they felt when their plane landed on US soil!

When those freed prisoners landed at Andrews Air Force Base one of them gave Vice President Pence a note. Written on it were these words from Psalms 126:
“When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with singing... The Lord has done great things for America, the Lord has done great things for us!”

Like a dream they came out of their captivity, but their release was not by chance. They were set free due to the work of others. They were set free from their captivity because others were willing to sacrifice of their time and strength for them. Others were the key to their freedom. Others labored until they were free.

In Scripture, we learn that Nehemiah, Ezra, Esther, Mordecai, and so many others worked on behalf of others who were in captivity. They sacrificed their time and gave up many comforts so that others could be set at liberty. This is a message for us!

There are real prisoners who are in real bondage to sin all across our nation.

Suicide is now one of the top ten leading causes of death in our nation! In 2016 alone 45,000 Americans took their lives. They were prisoners that died in their captivity. Every year the suicide rate is going up, but that can be stopped! God has given us the key to the prisoners’ freedom. That key is prayer and intercession. If America experiences a Great Awakening millions of prisoners will be set free from their captivity!

Each one of us can have a part in setting prisoners free! May the Lord give us that same burden that Nehemiah and Esther and so many others had, that same willingness to sacrifice for others so that many might be saved!
