Songs of Revival: Shut in with God

As we meditate on Passover, Good Friday, and Easter this week, much more comes to mind than previous years. This will be the first Easter celebrated out of church in the recorded history of the United States. As the Israelites were during the Passover, so are we, shut in with God.

For most of us, before the coronavirus epidemic our time with the Lord was very limited, but for many of us now we have more time.

A popular celebrity recently spoke out about the current circumstances we are experiencing today, with a shocking and true revelation. “In three short months, just like He did with the plagues of Egypt, God has taken away everything we worship. God said, ‘You want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down the Civic Centers, You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don’t want to go to church and worship me, I will make it where you can’t go to church.’  ‘If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’

Maybe we don’t need a vaccine, maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing that really matters in this world. Jesus.” - H. Hogan

What a blessing this time can be to our spiritual health, though it be strenuous! What an opportunity we have to be with our Lord, to learn to intercede and pray, to spend time with Him alone in that secret place. A song that sums up the beauty of this privilege can be found in a beloved hymn that was written in the time period of the great Welsh revival.

Shut in with God

The disciples were praying for the power to fall
Ten days they did tarry, on God they did call
Then God sent His spirit to baptize them all
For they had been shut in with God

Shut in with God in a secret place
There in the spirit, beholding His face
Gaining new power to run in this race
Oh, I love to be shut in with God
Of all pleasant places on land or on sea
There’s no place on earth that is sweeter to me
Than to kneel at the feet of my Master and Lord
For there, I’ll be shut in with God
The pathway to Heaven, though rugged it may be
I’ll travel ‘til my precious Savior I’ll see
Then the gates of that city will open for me
And there I’ll be shut in with God

Father, please do only what You can do and plant in us a LOVE for being shut in with You!
